Juagdan, Ubay
Juagdan (officially Barangay Juagdan) is one of the 44 barangays constituting the municipality of Ubay, in the province of Bohol, Philippines.
The barangay's total land area is approximately 131[2] and has a population of 1,106[3] as of 2007. In the last 2010 National election, it has 620[4] registered voters.
Barangay Juagdan celebrates its annual fiesta every May 23 in honor of their patron saint.
Location
Located on the eastern part of the municipality, barangay Juagdan overlooks Bohol Sea to the east. It is bounded by barangay Cagting to the north, to the south by barangay Guintabo-an and the west by barangay Biabas. It has approximate distance of 16 km from the town center, Poblacion.
History
Barangay Juagdan is once a big barrio of the municipality. However, during 1950's and years after, former sitios like Cagting, Cuya, Guintabo-an and Tintinan separated and became independent barangays.
The name Juagdan came from the Visayan word hagdan which means bridge or pathway. It can be contributed to the fact that Juagdan is once a narrow barangay, which looks like a bridge going to the main island of Bohol and to other barangays of the municipality. Later on, residents named it Juagdan, for the same reason.
Government
There are seven puroks or units in the barangay manned by the elected kagawads including the Punong Barangay or Barangay chairman.
